O QUE É O GRADING ?
For the pattern maker, one of the most difficult job that requires concentration, is the grading work.
The work of grading is creating the smallest and largest sizes from a base size pattern.
The pattern maker has to make calculations, so that the proportion of the base size is maintained, and that the models get bigger or smaller according to the client's table.
We need to have a knowledge of the proportions of the human body, because each point of the model must have a different value.
This work is very meticulous and if the model is composed of several pieces, it can become quite complicated
In the past, pattern makers used to do this work manually. They had to scratch off the base size and then add a different colour for each size.
Then, they had to copy piece by piece with transparent paper, in order to obtain all the sizes.
Nowadays, pattern makers can do this work using specific pattern-making digital programmes. This makes it quicker and more perfect.
